YORK, Westmoreland — Eleven-year-old Ricardo Dove was shot dead by gunmen who invaded his home in this quiet farming community on Monday night.
A distraught Robert Dove told the Jamaica Observer yesterday that some time after 11:00 pm, he was asleep in his bedroom when he heard an explosion coming from the room occupied by Ricardo and his younger brother.

The grieving father recounted that as he called Ricardo’s name and got a faint response, there came another explosion.
He then rushed to his sons’ room where he saw the younger one standing on the bed, trembling and Ricardo’s lifeless, bloodied body sprawled on the bed beside him.
“As I tried to take my younger son off the bed I heard a barrage of gunshots outside,” he recounted.(read more here)

Beauty Queen Babymama Drama
BEAUTY QUEEN babymama drama is hardly new to Jamaica or to the Caribbean—as Dave Rodney writes in this article for Jamaica’s Gleaner. Unmarried queens have been quietly having their babies for decades, long before the appearance of Facebook. Sometimes, the pregnancies were met with raised eyebrows and other times, nobody seemed to notice. Eventually, the dust settles and all the queens move on to lead happy and productive lives with their prosperous and talented offsprings. In the ’60s and ’70s, male politicians generally had the first pick of local beauty queens for wives, and many high-profile Jamaican politicians were beneficiaries of some of Jamaica’s most bewitching beauties. AFRICA: South Africa arrests 600 police officers for corruption.
Johannesburg – More than 600 South African Police Officers were arrested in South Africa’s Gauteng province since April 2011, the provincial police commissioner has said.
Lt Gen. Mzwandile Petross told newsmen in Pretoria on Wednesday that many of the arrests were attributed to tip-offs from members of the community.
“If there is one thing the people of this province are sick of, it’s corruption in the police.
“It’s good news that 600 police have been arrested because the communities are working-in-glove with the people you trust,’’ Petross said.
He said the South Africa Police Service (SAPS), was not shy to investigate and arrest those within its ranks who could not be trusted.
Petross said that there were also concerns about criminals operating in private security companies.
“I shudder to think how many who don’t take the police oath are involved in crime,’’ he said.
He said the majority of crimes committed by police officers related to fraud and corruption. (NAN)
